The trend, with your pet

The zombie love story is a short vertical AI video that spread in September and October 2026: one partner has turned, the other can’t fire, they hold each other, and it cuts to a happy memory. Pet owners started making their own version almost at once, with the dog or cat as the one who turned.

It works because the question is the same: would you still hold on? With a pet the answer is never in doubt, and that is what makes it land.

How the pet version is built

The film is 15 seconds long, in five shots and an end title.

  1. Standoff. A slow push-in from behind you toward your pet, who has turned, in cold blue light.
  2. The hand. A close-up of your hand. The flashlight trembles and the beam slowly lowers.
  3. The embrace. You set the light down and hold them.
  4. The memory. A match cut to a sunlit field. Same pose, same framing, both of you well.
  5. First light. Back in the ruins, you still holding them, as dawn comes in and the camera pulls back.
  6. End title. A line, your names and a date fade in over the last frame, if you want them.

Dogs, cats and other pets

Dogs and cats work best. Their faces are easy for the models to read, and their coats give the likeness something to hold on to: a tabby’s stripes, a husky’s mask, a spaniel’s ears. Short-haired pets with clear markings come out most like themselves. Very fluffy pets and all-black coats are harder, because there is less detail to match, so pick a photo where the light shows their fur.

Other animals may work, but they are not what we tested. Rabbits and birds sometimes come out as a different animal of the same kind. If the result isn’t your pet, the free remake gives you a second try while your photos are still kept.

In the pet version your pet is always the one who turned and you are always the survivor. The zombie look on a pet is the same restrained idea as on people: cloudy eyes and patchy, dull fur, with no wounds and nothing frightening. The film is about not letting go, not about horror.

Picking a scene

All three scenes work with pets.

  • Cabin → Wheat field. The original: blue moonlight through broken boards, then a sunset field. The one in the examples above.
  • Rainy city → Chapel. A rain-soaked street at night, then a small chapel with white flowers.
  • Lighthouse → Beach. A ruined lighthouse at dusk, then a beach at golden hour. Lovely for dogs who loved the sea.

A film for a pet you lost

Many people make this for a pet that has died. The film ends on the two of you together in warm light, which is why it can feel like a goodbye rather than a horror clip. If that is why you are here, use a photo where they look like themselves on a good day. Add their name and the years to the end title if you like.

Getting a good result

Use a sharp photo of your pet looking at the camera, with the whole head visible and the coat in good light. Markings matter: the model keeps what it can see. A photo of you facing the camera keeps you recognisable in the memory frame.

What you get

A vertical MP4, 720×1280, sized for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with music cut to the match from the standoff to the memory. If you add an end title, your line, your names and a date fade in over the last frame. You can change that title once for free after the film is made.

We email you when the film is ready, with the date it will be deleted. Films are kept 3 days if you bought as a guest, and 30 days once you confirm your email, by opening the link in that email, signing in with a code, or signing in with Google. We remind you once the day before deletion. Save it to your phone when it is ready.

What it can’t do

No AI keeps a face or a coat perfect. Expect a clear likeness with small differences in markings or ear shape. If the faces or the coat don’t come out right, you can remake the film once for free while your photos still exist. Photos are deleted within 3 days.

The people and animals in the example images on this site are AI-generated, not real customers or their pets.

Try it

Add your photos to the tool above. We check that there is an adult face in your photo, for free, then you type your email and pay. No sign-up needed. Films start at $4.40 each, one-time, with no subscription. Photos are deleted within 3 days and are never used to train AI. See pricing for packs, or make the couple version instead.

Questions

What is a pet zombie video?

The pet version of the zombie love story trend from TikTok and Instagram. Your dog or cat has turned, you can't leave them, you hold them anyway, and the film cuts to a warm memory of you together.

Does it work with dogs and cats?

Yes. Dogs and cats work best because their faces are easy to read. Other pets may work, but they are less tested. If yours doesn't come out right, you can remake the film once for free.

Is it scary for kids or pet lovers?

No. There is no blood, no biting and no violence. Your pet gets cloudy eyes and patchy fur so the story reads, and the gun from the original trend becomes a flashlight.

Can I swap who turns?

Not in the pet version. Your pet is always the one who turned, and you are always the survivor. For two people, use the couple version on the home page.

How much does it cost?

A film starts at $4.40, paid once, with no subscription. Nothing is generated for free, so the example films show what you get. You can remake each film once for free if your pet doesn't come out right.
