Zombie Couple Halloween Ideas
Published October 15, 2026
A zombie couple costume works because it tells a story in one look: one of you has turned, the other hasn’t, and you are still together. Below are looks that are easy to put together this week, makeup that reads on camera without turning into a gore costume, and how to get a photo or a short film out of it.
Pick the story first
The best couple costumes are not two identical zombies. Decide who turned and who didn’t, then dress for that.
- The survivor and the one who turned. One of you in clean, practical clothes: a jacket, boots, a flashlight. The other in the same kind of clothes, worn and dusty, with pale skin and tired eyes. This is the version from the zombie love story trend, and it is the one people recognise straight away.
- Both turned, still a couple. Matching outfits from a normal night out (a prom dress and a suit, a wedding look, matching work uniforms), both pale, still holding hands. Funny and sweet at the same time.
- Before and after. One of you exactly as you look every day, the other the zombie version of the same outfit. Simple to make because you only need one set of makeup.
- A zombie and a hunter who can’t do it. The hunter carries a toy crossbow or a flashlight and keeps lowering it. Easy to act out in photos.
Makeup that photographs well
Heavy wounds and fake blood look great in person and messy in photos. A restrained look reads better on a phone screen and keeps your faces recognisable.
- Skin: a pale grey-green base, thin, so your features still show. Blend it down the neck and onto the hands.
- Eyes: dark, hollow shadow around the eyes, and white or cloudy contact lenses if you are comfortable wearing them.
- Veins: a few fine dark lines on the temples and neck, drawn with a thin brush and softened with a fingertip.
- Hair and clothes: a little dry shampoo or grey powder in the hair, and dust rubbed into the fabric with a sponge.
Leave the survivor almost untouched. The contrast is what makes the costume read as a story.
Poses for the photo
- The standoff: the survivor in front, facing the camera from slightly to the side, the one who turned further back and looking straight at them.
- The embrace: the survivor holding the one who turned, eyes closed. This is the photo people share.
- The memory: take one normal photo of the two of you smiling, without makeup, before or after the party. Posted next to the zombie photos, it finishes the story.
Shoot in low, cold light for the zombie photos (a street at night, a garage, a room lit by one lamp) and in warm light for the memory photo.
The no-makeup version: a short film
If you would rather not spend an evening on makeup, or you want something to post after the party, you can make the same story as a short vertical film from two ordinary photos. One of you turns, the other can’t let go, they hold each other, and it cuts to a warm memory of the two of you, with an end title and music.
You need one clear, front-facing photo of each of you. We check both photos before you pay, and if the faces don’t come out right in the finished film, you can remake it once for free. Pets work too: in the pet version, your dog or cat is the one who turned.
